The Philippines boasts a rich and diverse music scene that continues to captivate both local and international audiences. From traditional folk music to contemporary genres, the country has a vibrant musical heritage that reflects its cultural diversity. One particular genre that has found a niche in the local scene is Shoe Gaze, a subgenre of alternative rock characterized by its dreamy, ethereal soundscapes and layers of distorted guitars.

Shoe Gaze emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s in the United Kingdom and eventually found its way to the shores of the Philippines in the early 2000s. Local musicians were drawn to the genre’s atmospheric sound and emotive qualities, leading to the emergence of Filipino Shoe Gaze bands like Outerhope, Daydream Cycle, The Dorques, Skies of Ember, just to name a few. These artists infused their own experiences and cultural backgrounds, resulting in a unique interpretation of the genre.

The genre has undoubtedly made a significant impact on the Philippine music scene, and has carved out a distinct niche in the alternative music landscape up to this day. Shoe Gaze’s influence has not only inspired musicians but also cultivated a dedicated and passionate fan base, supporting the growth of the genre within the country.

For the ones who are not familiar yet with the genre, here are some of the songs from today’s Filipino Shoe Gaze artists that you can immerse yourself into.
