Imagine this: You’re at a gig, and the band is shredding on stage. The frontman is belting out with extra high energy, the guitarist is melting faces with an epic solo, and the bassist is grooving along like a funky metronome. But wait, something’s missing! Oh yeah, the drummer! You strain your neck to catch a glimpse of them, but all you see is a blur of drumsticks and flying hair. It’s like trying to spot a ticking Butiki – you know they’re there, but they’re elusive as heck!
Drummers, the unsung heroes of the band, often find themselves in a musical conundrum. They’re the backbone of the music, the rhythmic wizards who keep everyone in time, and the noise-makers who make you want to bang your heads and jump like nobody’s watching. Yet, despite their crucial role, they often get relegated to the background like a forgotten extra in a movie.
But don’t be fooled by their humble position – drummers are masters of humour and wit. They know how to keep their cool even when they’re hidden behind a wall of drums, with only their sweaty faces and flying hair visible. They’ve got quick comebacks and clever retorts to keep the band banter going. So we asked Tribal / Dutdutan Drum Duel Finalist, Ian Moral, drummer of JP Cuison & Co. and Android-18, to share with us some funny dilemma that drummers have to humour the situation (or maybe he’s serious about this haha!).
1. Kung hindi ka matatakpan ng kabanda mo, matatakpan ka naman ng cymbals mo.
So, sino mag-aadjust? Yung ka-banda or yung cymbals? 😂
This maybe humourous but it’s real, jokes are half-meant anyway haha! Let us always be reminded that drummers are the backbone of the band that keeps the music pumping and the audience bangin’.
So, next time you’re at a gig or concert, take a moment to appreciate the unsung heroes behind the drum kit. Give them a shout-out, a fist bump, or take a good solo picture with them.
Check out Ian Moral’s bands’ music and try to focus on the drums! 😉
