A Musical Journey Unfolds
Paul’s journey into the world of music began when he was just 11 years old. At that tender age, he picked up the guitar and started jamming with his brothers and friends. Music quickly became a passion, but as life took him on various twists and turns, including relocating to America, he had to take a hiatus for about 5 to 6 years. During this time, other hobbies, studies, and work took center stage.
However, the pandemic served as a catalyst for his return to music. It was during the lockdown, when the world seemed to come to a standstill, that Paul realized he wanted to be a musician and write songs. He saw the opportunity to pursue his lifelong dream, and he seized it with both hands.
The moment when I told myself that I want to be a musician and write songs was during the pandemic when everything was on lockdown, and I can see myself go far and behind from it. – Paul
Defining His Own Sound
Like every musician, Paul had his share of early struggles. One of the major challenges was defining his own unique style. He aspired to be remembered for his distinctive sound. Experimenting with different styles and sounds, he often found himself at crossroads, grappling with what worked and what didn’t. Ultimately, he knew it was up to him to forge his path and create his unique musical identity.
Paul’s music is characterized by its catchiness and its ability to touch the soul. He endeavors to pour his emotions into each of his songs, allowing listeners to feel immersed in his musical world. While he draws inspiration from a multitude of artists, he doesn’t tie himself down to a single influence. Instead, he cherry-picks aspects from various musicians and incorporates them into his own music. Notably, his fellow artists at Dreamify have played a pivotal role in shaping his musical journey, pushing him to become a better artist and individual every day.
Trying different styles and trying to find my own sound. I always want to be known as having a unique style to be remembered from, and there would be times where I would struggle to come to terms that some things work and do not work and it’s up to me to do things where I can make it work. – Paul

Being a solo musician comes with both rewards and challenges. Paul relishes the freedom of producing and writing his songs. However, like many songwriters, he occasionally encounters writer’s block, a hurdle he must overcome to keep creating his distinctive sound.
Paul’s songwriting process involves an extensive collection of notes on his phone. These notes are inspired by daily life experiences. When the muse strikes, he can complete a song in just one day. It’s a proof to his commitment and passion for his craft.

A fusion of musical talent, love, and the aroma of a brewing romance.
I made a comfy instrumental that is perfect for a love song, and I couldn’t think of a topic/scenario, so I sent it to Nichimi and Chill Axe for a collaboration. Nichimi thought of a scenario of a love story of falling in love with the barista, and the rest is history. – Paul
Behind the scenes of this enchanting song lies a tale of collaboration and inspiration. It started when Paul created a cozy and inviting vibe perfect for a love song. Struggling to find the ideal scenario to match the melody, Paul invited Nichimi and Chill Axe to weave their creative genius into the fabric of the song.
Nichimi, the wordsmith of the trio, spun a narrative—a love story revolving around the enigmatic charm of a barista. With this, the foundation for “Kafe” was set, and the trio embarked on a musical journey, combining their unique talents to breathe life into the melody.
Brewing The Song
Paul Lagac delves into the creative process, illustrating the birth of his part in the song’s creation. It began with a melodious chord progression resonating from his acoustic guitar, accompanied by a bouncy synth and rhythmic drums. Each element intertwined to set the stage for the heartfelt tale.
Reflecting on his contribution to the song’s lyrics, Paul described a shift in the chord progression that inspired the confession to the barista. The words spoke of an ardent love, comparing the necessity of the barista’s presence in his life to the indispensable function of coffee—playfully exaggerated yet undeniably romantic.
I wrote about a confession to the barista and how much I love her and need her in my life just like how I need my coffee to function. Obviously made it feel more romantic even though it’s clearly exaggerated. – Paul
The Rap Intro
When asked about his favorite aspect of the song, Paul pointed to the rap intro by Nichimi. This segment, in Paul’s view, serves as the cornerstone that sets the stage for the song, laying the foundation for the narrative and ambiance.
Paul also reveals that “Kafe” marks Chill Axe’s inaugural vocal appearance on a track. This introduction of Chill Axe’s vocal prowess adds an element of excitement to the collaborative project, showcasing the diversity and talent within the trio.

Future Goals and Aspirations
Looking ahead, Paul has ambitious goals as a musician. He aims to become more deeply involved in the Filipino music scene, inspiring and innovating for the next generation. He envisions a future where his music resonates with an even wider audience.
What’s next will be more music next year and hopefully an EP, more collabs with my fellow Dreamify Artists such as Nichimi, Chill Axe, YNISH, Patrick Magada, Zynfinity, Polaris, 157, LYLEE, Mica Yui, and Halcyon Nights. – Paul
