Last December 18, 2022, the Pop Punk Manila Facebook page surprised the pop-punk community by changing its profile photo to ‘Pop Punk Manila 2023’ – which signifies a comeback after it ceased conducting shows in late 2018.
Pop punk is a music genre that began in the late 1970s and gained prominence in the 1990s. Fast, upbeat songs with catchy choruses and lyrics that frequently relate to the hardships of youth and young adulthood define the genre. Pop punk is commonly linked with bands like Green Day, Blink-182, and The Offspring, although it spans a diverse spectrum of musicians and styles.
The genre’s wide popularity reached the Philippines, with many local bands drawing inspiration from well-known foreign performers. The genre has been popular in the Philippines since the early 2000s and has evolved into what we can say is Filipino Pop Punk sound and scene. Examples of pioneering local pop-punk bands are Kamikazee, Typecast, and Chicosci.

The Filipino pop-punk scene is well-known for its committed following and tight-knit community. Pop-punk fans frequently attend shows and concerts to meet other people who share their enthusiasm for the genre and to see their favorite bands perform. As a result, local pop-punk communities have grown big over the years, with fans sharing songs and merchandises and even starting their own bands.
Pop Punk Manila was formed in 2015 to support and promote rock bands, especially pop-punk in the Philippines. The organization produces concerts that have served as a platform for Filipino pop-punk bands, particularly those from the underground scene.
In collaboration with Macbeth and Bongskie Productions, Pop Punk Manila has partnered with Eton Centris for the most awaited Pop Punk Manila Comeback Concert on February 25, 2023.
