Createurs just dropped their sophomore album, “To Tell The Tale,” and it’s one of the best we’ve heard this year!
Createurs is a dynamic arts and music collaborative project that has been weaving tales through its music for nearly a decade. With a current solid lineup having played together for four years, consisting of Rain Garalde, Christian Genova, Zaki Patricio, Ken Peñalba, and Jayson Lumaban
The songs in the album are so well-placed to make you feel like you are embarking on a journey with the band. It starts very inviting, with an overture that sounds like an entrance welcoming you into a different world, hinting at what’s coming up next, the first track.
“The Curious Life of Mr. Hyde I: The Jazzhound“
After leading you with an overture, this track is kind of seeing yourself on the other side of the door. It kicks off with a bang and asks, “Where have you been?”, this song is all our negative self-talk brought by anxiety and pressures from the world around us. The arrangement, with its highs and lows, perfectly expressed the frustration and confusion of being lost in reality and fiction.
“Burning Gaia“
This is very likely the song with less darkness in the whole album, but that doesn’t mean it’s not as good as the others. There’s a pop-punk energy to it that makes it very catchy and easy to listen to. This is an ode to Mother Nature, a reminder that when the world ends, it’s mostly because of how we, as humans destroyed our environment. Following this track is a quote from Greta Thunberg, a Swedish environmental activist, at the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit.
“Left For Red“
Rebellious and angry. A powerful anthem for the oppressed, serving as a rallying cry, combining aggression with a sense of empowerment. The track opens slowly with just the guitars, setting the stage for a seamless transition into a wall of guitars, thunderous drums, and screaming vocals.
“Constellation“
This track slows down the pace, featuring a more stripped-down arrangement. It gives a moment of reflection amidst the album’s heavy and dark vibe. It’s sexy, but don’t be fooled, it’s a lonely song disguised as a love song, capturing a sense of nostalgia and longingness.
“Hummanequin“
Quietly opening with a piano to set the mood, continuing the slow pace from the previous track, the song builds up slowly as it gets deeper. The narrative delves into riveting crime resolution and spine-chilling revelations that send shivers down the spine.
“Outcasts & Misfits“
A full instrumental track that is screaming with so many emotions. It kicks off with an atmospheric and haunting vibe. The powerful guitar riffs and dynamic percussion hits you not any lesser than words.
“Thieves of L.A.“
A potent combination of musical energy and social consciousness. A visceral experience that doesn’t shy away from the intensity of its subject matter. The juxtaposition of the heavy instrumentation with the heartfelt lyrics creates a powerful emotional impact, making it a song that resonates on both musical and thematic levels.
Transitioning from the previous track, the album included an interlude, “Fool’s Ascension,“ signaling you to prepare for what’s to come.
“Into The Void“
The infectious energy and the fantastic exchange of vocals between Rain Garalde and Reckless Thursday’s Alex Mangoroban make this track a standout. The track exudes confidence and rebellion, fitting the spirit of the music. It gives the same impression as Pierce The Veil’s “Caraphernalia” ft. Jeremy McKinnon, or My Chemical Romance and The Used’s version of “Under Pressure,” memorable and impactful vocals.
“Almost A Winner“
The song’s emotional impact lies in its ability to evoke a sense of wistfulness and introspection. The combination of the music, lyrics, and vocal delivery creates a captivating atmosphere that resonates with anyone who has experienced the complexities of love and how it ends.
“Know More“
Gently orchestrated in the simplest form possible, the song weaves a tapestry of imagery, capturing the essence of fleeting moments, changing seasons, and the ebb and flow of emotions. The exhaustion in Rain’s voice enhances how the song impacts you emotionally, coming from the first track to this is such a journey. This will make you look back and forward to what’s more out there. This is the positive self-talk in contrast to how the album started. A season-ender with a cliffhanger, that’s how it feels.
The whole listening experience will pull you out wherever you are and take you somewhere else. It feels like a movie without pictures.
“To Tell The Tale” is the story of all of us and everything that affects our lives, creatively translated into music.
